    7th ASEAN International Chopin Piano Competition Gala Concert took place on 17-23 December 2018 at Sunway University in Petaling Jaya organised by Chopin Society Malaysia (Persatuan Chopin Malaysia). The Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Kuala Lumpur has again returned as a sponsor after several years.

    The Embassy of the Republic of Poland has prepared special cash and book prizes that have been awarded in the following categories:

    1.            The best performance of the concert - Zhu Han Yuan (PRC)

    2.            The best polonaise performance - Anthiphophai Chaithawat (Thailand)

    3.            The best performance of the mazurka - Zhu Han Yuan (PRC)

    4.            The best etude performance - Jiang Qifan (PRC)

    5.            The best performance of the ballad - Lun Hoi Ching (Hong Kong)

    6.            The best waltzes performance - Sirilerdsacksakul Ratchawin (Thailand)

    The prizes were presented by the Ambassador K. Dębnicki during the Final Gala. Participants also received special music scholarships funded by the founder of Sunway University, Jeffrey Cheach. Over 120 musicians from Asia participated in this year's edition of the competition. Among over the 500 guests there were representatives of Malaysian politics, business, culture, as well as numerous representatives of the diplomatic corps. The Guests of Honor of the event were the Sultan of Negeri Sembilan State - Tuanku Mihriz ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir and the 93-year-old wife of the Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Mahathir Mohamad, YABhg Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, who is also a Patron of the event.  During the Final Gala YABhg Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali had performed several violin pieces accompanied on piano by Trustee of the Chopin Society Malaysia - YAM Tunku Zain Al'Abidin Muhriz.

    The first ASEAN International Chopin Piano Competition took place in 2004 and was initiated by a Macedonian Professor Snezany Panowska and the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Kuala Lumpur. The competition is held every two years and it is the largest event of its kind in the region of Southeast Asia.  In the past, the Poles have repeatedly been part of the jury panel of the competition and laureates have visited Poland as an award where they could participate as listeners in the International Chopin Competition in Warsaw.
